halloween 2016!

ok so, I took what seemed to be a never ending hiatus from this whole blog thing BUT i i think that i am back!  life just got super crazy for a little while there and i never was able to find the time… and when i finally did have the “time” there were 25 other things that needed the attention. ugh, life – i swear!!!  but then one day i randomly clicked on this little blog link of mine through my instagram and smiled as i looked back on all of the past happenings of my said crazy life and realized that i missed it!  so, here goes… blogging round 2.

anyway…. halloween 2016!!!

all3

we had a butterfly fairy princess, a black kitty cat, & marty mcfly! how cute are they?!

as of late in my adult life i have drifted from being a halloween lover…. i mean don’t get me wrong, i love fall and all of the fun, festive activities… but my day of dressing up in halloween costumes is certainly over.  but that doesn’t mean i can’t live vicariously through these 3 little bunnies, right?! right!

this year we didn’t have maeve and nick to trick or treat with…. but we did have school parades!  adriana was with us and this was the first year where she was super into it… from picking the costume (btw pottery barn kids, you are amazing!) to insanely running from door to door… she was all about it!   it was really cute to watch and made walking around in the cold not so bad.  even lola got in on the action… not even against her will!  she was a purple butterfly just like adriana… danny refused to hold her leash but i can’t really say that i blame him… not very “manly”! ha!

halloween 2016, you were a good one.  now i just need to get rid of all of the candy that’s in this house because good lord there is a ton…. and considering adriana is super picky with the kind she likes, it leaves A LOT for me to eat & that is just not a good thing.

peace out halloween, hello thanksgiving!!

apple picking!

applepicking5

apple picking  crossed off of our fall bucket list!

adriana has been begging to pick apples for weeks now and we finally made it happen today with some of our favorite girls!  we went to hills creek farms, my first time ever going to this particular orchard and it was adorable!

we did festive things like… pick apples (duh), purchase [more] pumpkins, took a “hay” ride (that had no itchy hay on the wagon…my kind of ride!), played on a playground, bought apple cider donuts (obviously), and had a cute little lunch date.  needless to say, we are living fall to the fullest around here!

now it’s time to start baking with all of these apples we picked today!

happy fall xo

it’s beginning to taste a latte like fall! [a recipe for pumpkin spice syrup!]

IMG_8518

don’t get me wrong, i love a delicious starbucks PSL more than most people… they are just ah-maz-ing!!  with that being said, my wallet isn’t in total agreement with me.  can you believe how much they charge?! ugh, it is just rude.  so! after doing some research i decided to make my own batch of pumpkiny goodness!  granted, i can’t steam the milk or make it quite as fancy as my love starbucks can… but i can at least say that mine is a much cheaper [and healthier!!]  version of one of my fav drinks!

ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 heaping tbsp pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice (homemade recipe can be found here)
  • 1/2 tsp additional cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

directions

heat it all up in a pot over medium heat stirring here and there until it’s all melted and has a syrup consistency! the pour it through a strainer into an air tight container and store in your refrigerator. and more importantly, pour it in your coffee and bask in the season!!

this recipe made about 8 oz for me… next time i will probably double the batch!

now all that i need to do is convince my husband to let me purchase this baby… then i can be a fancy barista right in our very own kitchen!  hey babe, christmas is coming… wink wink! xo

this time of year…

fall1 fall2 fall3 fall4 fall5 fall6 fall7

oh fall, it’s a kooky time of the year – isn’t it?

to some it means fashion week… to some it means the return of hockey [miss you already, husband!] … to others it means all things pumpkin spice and really all things pumpkin, pronto! … and of course the return of dreaded allergies – the worst.

but in my little world, it means…

…my fav wardrobe ensamble – jeans, long sleeves and flip flops! i also do not discriminate on the shorts and long sleeve look…. also a favorite.

…but, once it starts to get just a liiiiitle too nippy for flips, the boots return and that is a look i love.  i’m a little late to the party but, boot socks may just be my jam this year.

…each night saying in horror “it’s only 6:30?! and it’s already DARK out!!” ew, this may be my least favorite thing. november 1st… not looking forward to you.

…but, oh the smell of apple cinnamon all throughout our house snaps me right out of my seasonal affective disorder! (can you believe that’s a real thing?)

…trips to linvilla orchards.. gosh, i love that place!  however i will say it’s best to go early in the season… because the longer you wait, the crazier ‘pumpkinland’ becomes!

…and of course it means figuring out each new day and season with my precious peeps. i love them a ridiculously huge amount and each new season brings such fun things for them to experience and even for us to enjoy as their parents.  watching them search for the perfect pumpkin, or hop into a pile of crunchy leaves makes my heart so happy!  [i could do without watching them eat candy apples though… it’s not a pretty sight!]

…hmm, what else… oh! fires in the fire pit in our backyard on a cool night, pretty fall flowers, how gorgeous the trees look before the leaves fall, annual new hope trip [possibly], football!, and of course… thanksgiving!

xoxo
